Organization
The Festival is produced by the St. John’s International Women’s Film and Video Festival Inc., a provincially registered, non-profit organization located in St. John’s, NL, Canada.
The Festival is committed to searching out, promoting and exhibiting exceptional films and videos made by women; providing the public, filmmakers and other film professionals from Canada and abroad an opportunity to see and discuss these works; creating a marketplace where filmmakers and buyers can conduct business; and supporting and stimulating regional production.
Type of Film Festival: Non-competitive
Conditions for Entry
· Entries must be directed, written and/or produced by a woman. Male / female collaborations are welcome.
· Production must be completed after September 2009 unless solicited by the Festival as part of a special event or tribute screening.
· Exhibition format must be available in HDCAM, HDCAM SR, NTSC Beta SP, DigiBeta or DVD (Region 1). Please note we will NOT be accepting exhibition copies in PAL/Region 2 format.
· An English language or subtitled print/video is preferred.
Entry Fees and Submissions
· Before April 2, 2010: $20 CAD (cheque or CDN money order) / $20 USD (international money order ONLY)
· Before May 7, 2010: $25 CAD (cheque or CDN money order) / $25 USD (international money order ONLY)
· Before June 4, 2010: $30 CAD (cheque or CDN money order) / $30 USD (international money order ONLY)
Please make money order payable to the St. John’s International Women’s Film and Video Festival.
Pre-selection
Each entrant shall submit a completed entry form and two (2) Region 1/NTSC preview DVDs, together with as much of the following as possible (digital format preferred):
· Film synopsis
· Photo of filmmaker (300dpi)
· Production still(s) (300dpi)
· Filmmaker’s biography and filmography
· List of awards
· Other publicity material (poster, reviews, etc.)
Please note: Submitted pre-selection screeners will not be returned unless accompanied by a self-addressed, prepaid envelope.
Selection and Delivery
· Entries will be viewed by a programming committee and entrants will be notified of the decision regarding their entry in early September 2010.
· Exhibition formats of selected entries must arrive in St. John’s by September 30, 2010.
· The Festival reserves the right to use excerpts (up to three minutes) of, and to reproduce photos of, the production for promotion and publicity purposes.
· Filmmakers of some selected productions will be invited to the Festival and will be the Festival’s guests including accommodation/transportation.
Shipping and Responsibility
All shipping and related costs for exhibition films/videos sent to the Festival must be borne by the owner.
Each film/video sent to the Festival is entered in Canada on a temporary duty free and GST exempt basis, which means that all films must leave Canada following the Festival. To prevent delays and duty at customs, please:
· Mark all packages with “Film/Video for Festival to be returned to owner – No Commercial Value”.
· Include an invoice containing title of film, format, and fair market value (cost of print only)
All exhibition videos and film prints will be returned by regular mail (unless specified otherwise and paid by the entrant).
The Festival is not responsible in case of accidental damage or loss of entries, except when in the Festival’s possession.
In case of loss or damage to a print, the obligation of the Festival is limited to compensating the filmmakers for the cost of making a new print. The Festival Committee has the power to decide on any matters not specifically dealt with in these regulations. Notice of participation implies acceptance of these regulations. In any dispute, the decision of the Festival Committee will be final.
