FRAMED Film Camp (July 2009)
This July, seven high school students got a crash course in guerrilla filmmaking with the 8th annual FRAMED Film Camp. Mentored by local filmmakers Jacqueline Hynes and Stephen Dunn, participants learned how to professionally write and pitch a script, shoot, record sound, act and edit in just seven short days. Holy Heart of Mary student Renée Callahan-St. John wrote screenplay for BREAKER, the short film produced during the camp. The film features actors Ruth Lawrence and Korbin Sonley.
FRAMED Animation Camp (July 2009)
Partnering for the first time with For the Love of Learning, a local, arts-based education centre for resilient youth, the Festival was proud to host an animation camp with acclaimed animator Rachel Peters and filmmaker Stephen Dunn. During this five day workshop, participants learned the basics of classical and stop motion animation and collectively created the stop-motion classic, MONSTERS INCAPACITATED.
24 Hour Film Challenge (October 10-11, 2009)
Local filmmakers Roger Maunder and Allison White lead an intrepid team of high school students in a short filmmaking odyssey – one that unfolds over 24 hours! The clock counts down during the 8th annual 24 Hour Film Challenge as students write, shoot and edit a short script in time for the 20th annual St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival.
2D in 2Days Animation Challenge (Oct 17-18, 2009)
Back by popular demand, acclaimed Ontario-based animator and performance artist Rachel Peters returns to deliver her two day course in animation to local junior high students. Participants will learn a combination of classic flip book and stop-motion animation to create short animated masterpieces.
